September 4-6 & 18-20

Operation Rising Star Auditions

6 pm, Sports USA. Operation Rising Star is a worldwide singing competition building on the success of Military Idol. Contestants perform live during an eight week elimination at the installation level, where they compete for prizes and a chance to be their installation's Rising Star. September 18-19

Iron Mike Fitness Challenge

6 pm, Towle Stadium. Age group competition in pull-ups, 40 yard dash, standing long jump, medicine ball throw, 300 yard shuttle run and mile run. Open to military/government identification cardholders ages 18 and older. 396-1217.

September 22

Free Fishing Day at Smith Lake

11 am-2 pm, Smith Lake. In recognition of  National Hunting and Fishing Day, Smith Lake will host a free fishing day for licensed fisher’s and their children. Activities and discussion will include fishing, canoeing, kayaking, children’s events, entertainment, displays and presentations on gun safety, boating and hunting safety, environmental concerns and more. South Pacific Dancers will perform. 396-5979.

September 28 & 29

United States Army Soldier Show

Friday show begins at 7 p.m., Saturday show begins at 2 p.m.  Located at the Crown Theatre in Fayetteville. Free and open to the public. The U.S. Army Soldier Show is a song and dance troupe of the Army’s most talented soldiers.  The show is a high-energy MTV-style 90-minute live musical review showcasing the talents of active duty soldiers who are selected by audition throughout the Army. 396-9126 or 6126.

September 8

Teen Lock-in “America Kids Day” In Support of the Deployment Cycle

9 pm–9 am, Tolson Youth Activities Center. Free. Parent must register youth at Tolson YAC. Spaces limited, cut off is the day before the event or until spaces are filled. Food, karaoke, games, and more. Open to 7-12 graders. 396-KIDS.

September 13

Connect & Join class

9-11 am and 6-8 pm, ACS.  An overview of Connect & Join along with scrap booking and building of personal site.  To join class, you must have received your password from Connect & Join.  Contact Charlotte Watson at 396-8283 for more information on how to obtain password and to sign up.  Classes limited to 24. Child care will be provided (reservations needed).
