What is the New Parent Support Program?
The New Parent Support Program (NPSP) is a program offered to Army families to enhance parent and infant attachment, increase knowledge of child development, and provide connections to the support services that allow parents to become nurturing and capable caregivers. The NPSP staff consists of licensed social workers and registered nurses who provide in-home parenting education, support, and resource linkage. Download the NPSP brochure.

What if I already have children?
You don't have to be a NEW parent to participate in the program! Army families that are pregnant or with children through the age of three years are eligible for NPSP services. Family Advocacy offers classes to parents with children of all ages. If you already have children you would require childcare for to attend one of these classes, we offer free childcare for them! Sign up two weeks prior to the class. Please visit the ACS Events Calendar to select a class that is convenient for you.

What can NPSP do for me?
1. Home Visitation. Our professional staff provides supportive and caring services to military families that are pregnant, or with children through the age of three years. They can talk about your concerns as a parent or parent-to-be, and help you learn to cope with stress, isolation, post deployment reunions, and the everyday demands of parenthood in the privacy of your home. To schedule a home visit, call or e-mail NPSP staff.

2. Playmorning. Available on Fort Bragg and in Raeford. An interactive playgroup to assist parents in learning developmentally appropriate play techniques and to help children improve their social, cognitive, and motor skills. Structured activities include singing and dancing, story time, a craft project, and free play time. Select Mondays from 10-11:30 am, at Casablanca Neighborhood Center. View the Playmorning calendars for Fort Bragg and Raeford. Get directions to Play Morning, and to Heritage Village. No registration required, but must provide child(ren)'s immunization record(s).

3. 12 Things to Know in the First 20 Weeks. This class is very important to get your pregnancy off to a good start! You will learn valuable information about maintaining a healthy lifestyle including exercise, proper nutrition, rest, things to avoid during your pregnancy, and other valuable resources available to you on-post and in the surrounding community. We will also discuss what occurs during your prenatal visits and what various pregnancy tests mean. Sign up as soon as you know you are pregnant so we can support you through the early physical and emotional changes. Registration required. Please call us or register online.

4. Dads 101. A class taught by men for men! Caring for a brand new, tiny, fragile baby can be the most challenging job a dad will ever have to face. Many never get the hang of it, leaving all childcare issues to the mom, which is not good for Mom, marriage, or the baby. The goal of this class is to provide new dads with important skills they need to pitch in and be the best, most effective dads they can be! Registration required. Please call us or register online.

5. Infant Care & Parenting Class. This series of four classes is designed to provide parents with an understanding of their infant's world along with basic skills necessary to care for the infant. In addition, these classes provide an opportunity for "hands-on" practices that assist parents in making informed, responsible decisions about all aspects of caring for their child during those first formative years. Registration required. Please call us or register online.
