Commander's Core Leadership Roles
* Take a personal interest in education by fostering and sustaining strong partnerships with local school districts. * Provide opportunities for school leaders to learn about military life and the importance of helping teens during transition. * Provide meaningful input into SETS local action plans of signatories. Help determine progress checks for the school's assessment of their local action plan (LAP).
Commander's Core Responsibilities
* Continue strong child-centered partnerships between the installation and the supporting school districts and schools. * Review, implement and sustain best practices for your installation and CYS (Tab 8, Best Practices for Installations). * Encourage installation personnel to attend trainings and professional development related to improving school transitions. * Support and/or host transition-related professional development for educators. * Be knowledgeable of the SETS Guiding Principles that the schools agreed to when they signed the SETS MOA. * Cooperate and coordinate with DA HQ and IMA regions to support local schools in developing, sustaining and sharing best practices. * Support expansion of the SETS MOA to all schools that serve Army-connected children and youth. * Support expansion of the SETS MOA to schools that serve Air Force, Navy, Marines, Army Reserve and National Guard installations. * Promote best transition practices for families and military-connected students.
