History

Ryder was opened in 1930 as the Officers Golf Course of the Fort Bragg Officers Club. Originally 27 holes, the Officers Course was only open to officers and their family members. During the early sixties nine holes were taken out of use and housing was built. For many years the Officers Course was the hidden gem among the golf courses in the Fayetteville area.

On most maps the Officers Course was not listed to keep the exclusivity of the course. In the early nineties, LTG Hugh Shelton, (now General Hugh Shelton, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs), Commander of the 18th, Airborne Corps, opened the course to all eligible military users, and renamed the course “Ryder Golf Course”.
