The swim will begin promptly at 0830 on the sandy beach of Smith Lake. Swimmers will begin a two-lap swim around buoys to complete a total of 1000 meters.  Racers will then exit the lake and complete a brisk 100 meter trot to the transition area.  Exiting the transition on bike, racers will then cruise 200 meters on Smith Lake Road before turning onto the fire break trail.
After completing one mile on the fire break, racers will hit the trailhead to begin the first of a two-lap mountain bike course totaling 18 miles of single track.  Bikers will slip and slide through the sandhills and over technical root sections with one- and two foot drops.  They will encounter a mix of three rock gardens, sand pits, log jams, ladders, bridges, and pine needle covered sharp turns.
Next, riders will head back up the fire break trail to transition for the run.  Runners will exit the transition area and run back down the fire break and onto the single track again.  After clearing the 3.2 miles, racers will head back to the transition area to the finish line.  Even the most experienced competitor will not complete this event in less than two hours.  There will be a cut-off time of five hours.
